Quilting Class and Sewing Day!

You asked for it and we’ve got it!

Our chapter will be offering a beginning quilting class to NEW and BEGINNING/NOVICE quilters.  The class will be Saturday, September 7th from 9 AM to 3 PM with a break for lunch.

The plan is for you to finish the day with a completed quilt top or the skills and knowledge to complete it at home.

What do you need to bring?

-A sewing machine (don’t forget extra needles, cord, foot pedal and manual).  If you don’t have a machine, contact Deb Miller and she will make arrangements to get one for you to use (limited supply).

– Neutral thread (gray, off white, etc.), bobbins for the machine, and basic sewing supplies (scissors, pins, etc.)   We will have some supplies if you don’t have them.

-Fabric: you’ll need 6 coordinating fat quarters (also known as F4s) 1.5 yards of a contrasting fabric for the background. It’s best if the background is a very different color and not very busy (no print). [If you need fabric, let us know – Sandy and Karen have plenty to share!]

-Cutting mats, rulers, and cutters, and ironing boards/irons will be provided, but you can bring your own if you want.

Class overview

We’re using a pattern called “Transport” from Villa Rosa designs and you’ll receive a copy of the pattern at the class. Your top will finish about 49″ x 60″ which is a great size for an older child (and we always need those!)

We’ll start the day with a lesson in rotary cutting, then spend the rest of our time making the top. Once you learn the techniques, it’s repetitive. And fun!

This is a limited attendance event.  You MUST make a reservation by emailing Deb Miller by no later than September 1 ([email protected]).  Be sure you get a confirmation email in return.  Please title your email Quilt Class.

The event will be held at Faith Harvest Church.

For those of you that are already quilters or DON’T want to quilt, you are welcome to attend that day also.  We will be in a separate area to sew, crochet, knit, sew on labels, etc.  We’ll have quilts that need to be tied, too.

Lunch will be provided.
